Manchester United are reportedly out in the market for a new manager and as per rumours, they have held talks with ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel had earlier announced that he is going to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season but after the Bavarians beat Arsenal in the Champions League there were a few whispers claiming that the club might hold onto him. However, the manager has intention of remaining at the club and he would prefer a return to the Premier League next season.
This news sits perfectly in line with Manchester United’s hunt for a new manager because they have clearly been struggling under their current boss Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag’s job is not at all secure[even if United win the FA Cup] and because the club is set to miss out on UCL football next season, the INEOS owners are searching for alternatives.
Thomas Tuchel possibly becoming the next Man United manager has caught the attention of several top experts and one of them is Peter Schmeichel who has backed the German naming him the ideal candidate.
The ex-United keeper has said on Tuchel managing United[h/t Metro]: “I’m just saying that’s the category of manager that Manchester United should have were they to be in the market for a manager…”
Should Man United go after Thomas Tuchel or should they bring in Zidane?
Thomas Tuchel was at Chelsea from January 2021 until September 2022 and during this small amount of time, the 50-year-old helped the Blues win the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Todd Boehly became restless with Tuchel at the start of the 2022/23 season after a string of poor results which is why the German was sacked. Everyone thought he would redeem himself in Germany but things have gone downhill with Bayern as well which is why he is now eager to return to the EPL and prove himself once again.
Tuchel certainly has the calibre to manage a team like Manchester United but we believe Zinedine Zidane will be a much better choice.
Thomas Tuchel did win the UCL at Chelsea but apart from that, the 50-year-old has not done anything noteworthy. His first full season with Chelsea did not start off great and under him, Bayern Munich have just surrendered the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen. Yes, he has helped the Bavarians reach the semi-final of the Champions League but the fact that Bayern failed to win the league title, something that is their bread and butter, raises a lot of doubts over Tuchel’s long-term plans and capabilities. Before Chelsea, he had managed PSG where won all the domestic silverware but then again, the French league is not the most competitive and PSG are the favourites each and every season.
Zinedine Zidane, on the other hand, had two stints with Real Madrid where he won 11 trophies with the club, including three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles. When Zidane was at the helm, Madrid looked invincible and it’s safe to say that not many managers have seen so much success in so little time.
Another major factor why Man United should choose Zizou over Thomas Tuchel is because the Frenchman commands a lot more respect and he can deal with superstars and big-ego players. At United, discipline and culture have been a major issue ever since Sir Alex left the club and Zidane will be the ideal person to solve it.
Manchester United had tried to bring in Zinedine Zidane a few years ago but the manager had then rejected the move because he could not speak English. However this time, the 51-year-old is willing to move to Old Trafford and is waiting to see what happens with Ten Hag in the coming weeks. Thomas Tuchel is no doubt a great manager who can still go on and win the Champions League this season with Bayern Munich but if Zidane is ready to move to England then the choice becomes really simple and straightforward for the INEOS owners.
