Chelsea player top dollar to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig last summer but so far, the forward has turned out to be a major flop in the Premier League.

Under Frank Lampard and now under Thomas Tuchel, the 25-year-old is struggling to find his peak form and pundit Owen Hargreaves has warned that if Timo Werner cannot up his game real quick then the club will not hesitate to go ahead and find a replacement.

Hargreaves said, via Metro: “He can play in multiple positions, he has some really good moments and then he has some moments where you think the quality looks like it isn’t there.

“He looks like he’s short on confidence, that you can see and the numbers suggest that, 31 appearances, only six goals. In Germany it was one a game at least.

“His confidence looks low and then he’s making decisions you wouldn’t see from him normally. It’s a really important five games left for him to finish the season because if he keeps missing some of these chances, Chelsea are going to go get another big hitter.

“Tammy Abraham is their top scorer in all competitions this season, there’s four others on six goals in the Premier League but Tammy’s their top and he barely plays right now. If Chelsea are going to take it to the next level, they’re going to need somebody that gets big numbers.”

Last season, Timo Werner scored 28 goals in Bundesliga 34 games for RB Leipzig last season and he was supposed to be the next best thing in the Premier League this time around. But in his first 31 league games, the German has managed to net only six goals, out of which just two have come in the current year.

Thomas Tuchel is clearly showing a lot of patience with the forward but there’s no denying that time is running out for the 25-year-old at Chelsea.

Roman Abramovich has money to spare so he will not think twice before replacing Timo Werner with another top-class striker and with someone like Erling Haaland available in the market, Werner should really start getting his act straight.
