Celtic FC have shown a strong inclination towards signing Ivan Toney from Peterborough United but according to Frank McAvennie, the Bhoys are paying way too much.

As per some reports, Posh want around £9million in exchange for the former Newcastle United man which according to Celtic FC legend is an absurd quote.

“Peterborough want £9million for Toney,” he told Football Insider. “That is stupid wanting that kind of money.

“He has been around for a long time and he has been loaned out more times than he cares to remember. When a player has been around, loaned out, it makes you wonder.

“He found a level last year that was great but I just do not think Celtic would pay £9million for him. I think he could come up and do it at Celtic but I just think he is overpriced.

“If Griff keeps fit, he will be back in the fold. £5million would be a great move at a good price.”

During the 2019-20 season, Ivan Toney scored 24 goals in 32 League One matches for Peterborough so clearly all that money will not go down the drain.

But Celtic should surely try and double-check before spending so much money on a single player, that too after such a massive lockdown.

As per some reports, the League One side have already turned down a bid of £6 million from the Premiership side.
