Ivan Toney is one of the most sought-after centre-forwards in English football right now with clubs like Rangers, Blackburn and Celtic all wanting to sign him next season.

The striker has been in peak form for the Posh during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 24 goals in just 32 League One matches and the 24-year-old has been tipped to move out fo the club this summer.

Initially, both the Glasgow sides were a bit sceptical about making a move for Toney due to the high transfer demands from Peterborough United.

Their director of football Barry Fry told The Daily Mail (via The Scottish Sun): “I’ve had agents on telling me that Rangers and Celtic are very interested. But I haven’t had any calls from either Rangers or Celtic, personally.

“If they have any sense, they’ll pay us £15million to get him. If they haven’t any sense at all, then I won’t be hearing from them.”

Now as per a report in the Football Insider, Rangers FC are one of the frontrunners in signing Ivan Toney and they might wrap up the deal for as little as £5 million.

The report claims: “Rangers are confident that Ivan Toney can be prised from Peterborough United for around £5million this summer, Football Insider can reveal.

“The English League One club’s sporting director Barry Fry has warned suitors they will need an eyewatering £15m to land the 24-year-old.

“A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Toney’s suitors including Rangers believe £10m less than that will seal the deal for him.”

This is a huge boost for Steven Gerrard since Ivan Toney will be a fine addition to his Gers squad next season but at the same time, it’s a massive hindrance for Neil Lennon as he’s out in the market looking to bring in a replacement for Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard could be on his way to the Premier League this summer and the Peterborough United forward would have been a great solution to all of the Bhoy’s problems.

But with the Gers now leading the charge, it will take extra effort for Celtic to try and persuade the 24-year-old to join them next season.

Also, apart from these two Premiership sides, English club West Bromwich Albion are also in the transfer race and this reduced price tag will also heighten their senses.
