Arsenal and Chelsea had been scouting Ivan Toney for the longest time but now, it’s Tottenham Hotspur who are the favourites to land the Brentford forward, as per Football Insider.
Chelsea and Arsenal need to sign a new striker for the 24/25 season, however, both these clubs have cooled off their interest in Toney and if everything goes well, Tottenham will now be able to land the Bees man.
Spurs wish to sign Ivan Toney on their own terms and a €58 million transfer fee should be enough to make Brentford agree on a sale. Last year, Brentford were quoting around €100 million for the English forward but Toney is about to enter the final year of his contract and now, his current market is €58 million.
Should Arsenal or Chelsea go back for the 28-year-old?
Arsenal and Chelsea are not expected to go for Ivan Toney during the summer window because they have been monitoring other targets.
Toney is more than willing to play under Mikel Arteta but the Gunners feel he does not have the right attitude and now, they have made Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres their priority number one.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are keeping tabs on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but they are also interested in Gyokeres.
Benjamin Sesko is another forward who has also been linked with the two London clubs.
Will Ivan Toney help elevate Tottenham?
Tottenham have not yet brought in a long-term replacement for Harry Kane and in recent weeks, the absence of a world-class centre-forward has been a real eyesore.
Spurs have been a mess in recent matchweeks and Ange will have to be backed with a new striker for the 2024/25 season. His style of high press and high-intensity football needs a pacey and an ever-willing runner up top and the Brentford man is just the perfect man for the job.
Ivan Toney has scored four goals in 15 Premier League games since his return from suspension but last season, he had netted 21 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Richarlison is Spurs’ main centre-forward this season but the 27-year-old has started in only 18 Premier League games. The North London side brought in Timo Werner in January but even he has not been of much help. In such a scenario, a player like Ivan Toney, with his good goal-scoring record and his massive physical presence can be a huge upgrade next campaign.
