Jack Grealish playing for Aston Villa

Manchester City are confident they can beat Manchester United to the signing of Jack Grealish during the next few months, as per ESPN.

Mark Ogden writes: “Pep Guardiola wants Jack Grealish as part of Manchester City’s summer squad strengthening programme, with sources telling ESPN that the City manager regards the Aston Villa midfielder as important a target as Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

“Guardiola believes that the club should not miss out on the opportunity to sign Grealish if Villa are prepared to do business.

“Sources have told ESPN that Villa’s £33m club record move for Norwich midfielder Emiliano Buendia has given City encouragement that a deal could be done for Grealish, who signed a five-year contract to stay at Villa Park in 2020.”

Where will Jack Grealish be playing next season?

Manchester United have a long-standing interest in Jack Grealish and there have been rumours that Ole Solskjaer is going to reignite his interest in the Villa playmaker now that Dean Smith has signed Emi Buendia.

But now Man City’s involvement in this is sure to make things a lot more complicated since Guardiola’s side have just won the Premier League title and they also reached the semi-final of the Champions League. On the other hand, Man United finished another season trophyless.

City have a host of attacking options which could prove to be a big hurdle for them trying to sign Jack Grealish.

Any team the 25-year-old joins, he will want guaranteed starts there but at City, he will have to fight players like Mahrez, Sterling, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva to be able to secure a spot in the starting line-up.

Aston Villa reportedly want around £95 million for the sale of their most important player and we don’t see them handing out any major discounts since Grealish’s contract at the club expires in the summer of 2025.

The 2020-21 season has been a bit subdued due to injuries but still, Jack Grealish played in 26 Premier League games, scoring six and assisting 12 goals.
