Arsenal might finally be able to land James Maddison as Leicester City are now willing to part ways with the playmaker, as per 90min.
The report claims: “Whilst the Foxes will rebuff enquiries for Tielemans, the same can’t be said of James Maddison.
“Whilst Leicester are not actively looking to move Maddison on, they are aware of interest in him – mainly from Arsenal. And Leicester are ready to listen to offers if they come in and are big enough.
“England international Maddison is also believed to be open to the idea of a move away from the club, particularly to one in London.”
Can Arsenal pay the big bucks for James Maddison?
With Ozil, Ceballos and Odegaard all leaving Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta has been eyeing James Maddison to plug that creative void.
Maddison remains one of the key players for Leicester City but his performances have seen a dip during the 2020-21 season. And according to former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, the 24-year-old could be a gamble signing.
“There are some rumours coming out about Maddison and I think there is some strength in it,” he told the Highbury Squad Podcast. “I like him as a player. I think he’s a good player.
“But I don’t think he’s a game-changer for Arsenal. I really don’t. I think he’s a good complimentary player when things are going well.
“But when things aren’t going well, then I don’t think he can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and be a difference-maker.”
Leicester City are likely to demand around £60 million for the sale of James Maddison and this could be a major problem for the Gunners.
Arsenal have already spent £50 million on Ben White so it will be really hard for them to sanction another big-money move. The only way Arteta will be able to manage this is by selling a handful of his unwanted first-team players.
Maddison’s current deal expires in 2024 so Leicester will be more than happy to hold onto him for one more season. This means the onus is on Arsenal to convince the club as well as the player to sign on the dotted line.
