Arsenal have secured the signing of Ben White and as per the major publications in England, the Gunners’ next priority is to sign James Maddison from Leicester City.

Mikel Arteta seems to be a fan of the playmaker which is why Arsenal have recently made moves to bring him onboard before the 2021/22 season begins.

Arsenal have already seen a cash-plus-player deal rejected by the Foxes and as per some rumours, the North London side are even thinking of paying outright cash to get the deal done.

This was a great bit of news for the Arsenal fans since their club were finally showing some intent to sign a world-class player like James Maddison. But if Brendan Rodgers is to be believed then Arsenal are yet to make a formal offer.

The Foxes boss told Daily Mail: ‘I know he is very happy here and he wants to be here.

‘If anything comes to the club, Jon Rudkin (director of football) would tell me straightaway and I would deal with it then, but there has been nothing that’s come my way.

‘I’ve not been told anything to say [he won’t stay]. He is happy in training and he is working hard, and he is a talented, important member of the squad.

‘He had his season disrupted by injury last year but hopefully this season he can show what a real top player he is.’

One step forward and two steps back seems to be the current moto for the Arsenal management as are really struggling to bring in a new attacking midfielder this summer.

The Gunners have also been linked with Martin Odegaard and Isco but James Maddison will undoubtedly be their safest bet to compete for a top-four spot.

With Granit Xhaka staying, Arsenal have saved a lot of money in that area so they are likely to make a formal push for Maddison very soon(if they haven’t already).

But, it remains to be seen if Leicester City are ready to part ways with him and if the midfielder himself is willing to join Arsenal, a club where he won’t be able to play in Europe next season.

James Maddison signed a four-year deal with Leicester last year and he is currently valued at £49.5 million according to TransferMarkt.
