James Maddison has been a bit subdued during the 2020/21 season and maybe this is why clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal are being linked with the Leicester City playmaker, according to Leicestershire Live.
The report claims: “Leicester City star James Maddison has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Arsenal and Chelsea in this summer’s transfer window.
“Arsenal are said to be considering a move for Maddison, with boss Mikel Arteta apparently a big admirer of the England international.
“It has also been reported that Chelsea would make a move for the 24-year-old playmaker should they sell Hakim Ziyech, who has been linked with AC Milan.
“LeicestershireLive understand that it would require a huge bid for the Foxes to even consider selling one of their prize assets, along with an indication from the player that he wants to leave the King Power Stadium.”
James Maddison to move out of Leicester City?
James Maddison has seen his importance dip last season as he made 31 Premier League appearances for Leicester City, scoring eight and assisting seven goals.
And as per some reports, Leicester City no longer value him as a key player and are ready to cash in on the England international if a club is ready to meet their transfer demands.
Transfermarkt values James Maddison at £49.5million, but a few reports are claiming that Leicester City are holding out for a fee of £60million. And this valuation could be a significant obstacle for both Chelsea and Arsenal.
The Gunners are not likely to bring back Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid which is why they are being linked with the Leicester City man. But we doubt if they will be able to pay £60million for the 24-year-old, especially since they cannot offer European football next season.
Chelsea will only make a move for James Maddison if they are ready to send Hakim Ziyech out of the club this summer. £60million is not going to be a problem for the Blues, especially if they can get a good enough price for Ziyech.
Leicester City do not need to hit the panic button since James Maddison has three more years left on his current deal but with his form dipping, we don’t think Brendan Rodgers will be too eager to hold onto him for too long.
