Leicester City welcome Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday and according to pundit Jamie Carragher, Jamie Vardy could prove to be a major headache for the away side.

“Deep down, Brendan (Rodgers) knows it is not just about what Vardy’s goals bring,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.

“(James) Maddison, (Harvey) Barnes and others are more effective with Vardy in the team.

“His presence changes how an opponent might play against Leicester, creating space for team-mates because defenders are frightened when a player with Vardy’s pace and movement is on their shoulder for 90 minutes.

“Put it this way; Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp’s heart will have sunk a little when noting Vardy’s return as a substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

“He knows this weekend’s trip to Leicester will be tougher if Vardy starts.”

Jamie Vardy had undergone a groin surgery towards the end of January and was expected to miss a few weeks of action.

But the forward had a really quick recovery and made a comeback into the first-team squad as he came off the bench in the 0-0 draw vs Wolves last weekend. And then he went on to start up front against Brighton in the FA Cup in midweek.

The early return from injury is great news for Brendan Rodgers but at the same time, it’s a major problem for the Liverpool manager.

Fabinho will not be available for selection after picking up a muscle injury meaning the Liverpool backline will be a really shaky one this Saturday. And with 11 goals from 19 Premier League already under his belt, Jamie Vardy could rip the Liverpool defence to shreds.
