Jerome Boateng is currently a free agent and according to Calciomercato, the defender’s dream is to join Premier League side Manchester United.

Sports Mole cites Calciomercato: “Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio, Napoli and Roma are all said to be interested in the Germany international, but according to Calciomercato, Boateng ‘dreams’ of a switch to Old Trafford.”

The 32-year-old has been linked with several clubs since leaving Bayern Munich but on Saturday the English media was abuzz with reports that he wishes to play for Manchester United next season.

Several United fans would have been really excited with this news but Fabrizio Romano has been quick to come out and set the record straight. Saying that United do not wish to make a move for Jerome Boateng.

He wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United are not considering a move for Jerome Boateng – and he’s not joining Hertha Berlin or PSV this summer.

“Jerome Boateng will pick his new club in the next days. He’s not in a rush.”

Should Man United try and sign Jerome Boateng?

Man United have already brought in Raphael Varane and he is going to be the first-choice centre-back alongside Harry Maguire next season.

The club are yet to get rid of Bailly, Lindelof or Tuanzebe so it really makes no sense for Ole to try and sign Boateng as well.

Having said that, apart from challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title, Manchester United are also eyeing Champions League glory. And we think, someone like Jerome Boateng could be an asset in these sorts of situations.

The German international has played in 314 Bundesliga games and 84 UCL matches, winning the European crown twice. Also, he’s spent some time in the EPL as well, so he’s not totally unaware of the English style of football.

He will be the ideal person to add European experience in that defensive line but we don’t think Man United are looking at any other central defenders after landing Varane. Next up on their agenda will be the signing of a defensive midfielder.
