Manchester United academy graduate Jesse Lingard recently signed a new contract which will keep him with the club until 2021.

Lingard who joined the Red Devils as a seven-year-old youngster has till date made 70 appearances for the club. He has also scored 11 goals in those 70 appearances. He has been going through some fine run of form in the current season under new boss Jose Mourinho. And his performance has been rewarded with a new contract.

With the new contract, he is all set to get a huge pay rise. He will be earning 100,000 pounds a week as per the terms of the new contract. This is a relatively high price for a potential youngster who had yet to prove a lot. But on the other hand, it also goes to show the amount of faith that the manager and club have in him. Big spending has also been one the recent tactics of the club to keep their players.

But many people clearly think that such a high salary for Lingard is a bit too much. And they have taken to Twitter, to voice their concerns:

Jesse Lingard said, “Manchester United has always been a big part of my life. I have been with this club since the age of seven and I feel great pride every time I pull the shirt on.”

United boss Jose Mourinho also praised the Englishman saying, “Jesse has been with the club since the age of seven. He has good intelligence which, when combined with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a great future ahead of him. Jesse is a popular member of the squad and I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”
