Leicester City will try and make a move for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard should they lose James Maddison to Arsenal, according to Football London.

The report claims: “football.london has learned that Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is being lined up as a replacement for Maddison in the event that he leaves the club.”

Jesse Lingard was absolutely brilliant during his loan spell with West Ham United last season but the Hammers have failed to sign him on a permanent deal.

Some reports have suggested that Lingard wants to remain at United and fight for his place but if he gets to replace someone like Maddison at Leicester then there’s every chance he will want to leave.

Will Jesse Lingard replace James Maddison at the Kind Power Stadium?

In a recent interview, Brendan Rodgers had claimed that the club are yet to receive any formal bid for James Maddison.

“I know he is very happy here and he wants to be here,” Rodgers said, as quoted. “If anything comes to the club, Jon Rudkin (director of football) would tell me straightaway and I would deal with it then, but there has been nothing that’s come my way.

“I’ve not been told anything to say [he won’t stay]. He is happy in training and he is working hard, and he is a talented, important member of the squad.

“He had his season disrupted by injury last year but hopefully this season he can show what a real top player he is.”

The latest updates have suggested that Arsenal have not given up hopes of signing the 24-year-old but the talks between the two clubs are moving at a very slow pace.

But now that Leicester City are being linked with Jesse Lingard it will be a huge boost for Arsenal and their transfer plans.

Man United are ready to offer Lingard a new deal at the club but if Leicester are willing to shell out around £25-30 million, then we don’t see why the Red Devils will want to hold onto him for one more season.

Having said this, the whole arrangement depends on Arsenal convincing Leicester City to part ways with James Maddison. And for that to happen, the Gunners will have to dig deep into their pockets.
