A number of clubs had been trying to sign midfielder Joe Aribo from Charlton Athletic this summer.

But in the end, the 22-year-old chose to join Rangers FC earlier this week and the club have confirmed the transfer by releasing an official statement.

The Rangers statement read: “Joe Aribo has revealed he plumped for a move to Rangers ‘because of the size of the club,’ and the fact Steven Gerrard is the manager.

“Aribo, 22, joined up with his new teammates in the Algarve this afternoon having agreed a four-year deal with Gerrard’s Gers.”

Apart from the Gers, Celtic were also interested in signing Joe Aribo and at one point it was being claimed that the midfielder would choose to join the Park Head outfit.

But now that he has chosen to sign a four-year deal with Rangers, Joe Aribo has revealed as to why he decided to play for Steven Gerrard’s men.

Joe Aribo explained: “It is a dream come true to play for a club the size of Rangers. I grew up watching them, I am buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get going.

“[I chose here] because of the size of the club of course, but also the manager. I had a chat with him and he persuaded me this was the best place to be at the moment and I trusted him.

“I am quite dynamic and can get up and down the pitch. I can get at players in a ‘one v one’ and sometimes I can pick a pass and find the back of the net.

“My aim last season was to get 10 goals and I achieved that. I want to be a goalscoring midfielder and I take pride and joy in scoring goals.

“I can’t wait! It is going to be bouncing and everyone is going to be buzzing so I just can’t wait to put on the shirt and get going.”

Steven Gerrard has claimed that Joe Aribo could find great success in the Gers midfield next season since he plays primarily with his left foot and right now, Rangers do not have that kind of player in the midfield area.
