According to a report in Kicker, Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Jonas Hofmann.

Both the sides are looking to add some much-needed depth into the squad before the new season kicks off and the 28-year-old’s performances seem to have really caught the eye of many big European sides.

Up until now, the Blues and Spurs were expected to fight a two-horse race in the signing of Jonas Hofmann but now as per the latest updates, Leicester City and Atletico Madrid have also shown an interest in signing the attacking midfielder.

The German international has been in great form for Monchengladbach this season, scoring six and assisting 11 goals in 24 Bundesliga games for the club and despite being a right-winger, Jonas Hofmann can play in a variety of roles.

Spurs are looking for reinforcements down the right wing with Gareth Bale heading back to Real Madrid and even Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that he wants to upgrade his side in order to defend the Champions League trophy and also challenge for the Premier League next season.

The entry of Leicester City is sure to make things complicated but as things stand, Chelsea are obviously the favourites to land Jonas Hofmann this summer. The Blues have just been crowned the UCL champions while Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur will not even be playing in the Champions League next season.

But having said that, the 28-year-old will not be a guaranteed starter should be decide to join Chelsea in the summer. Tuchel opts to play with a 3-4-2-1 system so there’s no particular right-winger in his squad. Also, Tuchel has players like Mason Mount, Ziyech and Pulisic who currently perform the same role.

At Leicester and Spurs, things will be totally different since Jonas Hofmann can quite easily claim a place down the right wing plus he can also tuck into the No 10 role as well as left-winger.

In the 2020-21 season, the German international played 15 games down the right flank, 10 on the left-hand side of attack and six as a midfielder. So, it’s pretty clear why so many big Premier League clubs have suddenly spiked their interest in the Monchengladbach man.

According to TransferMarkt, Jonas Hofmann still has two more years left on his current deal with the German side and he is currently valued at 14.4 million pounds.
