Arsenal continue their hunt for a new centre-forward and it seems like the Gunners will try and bring in a new signing during the January transfer window.
Initially, there were reports that the Gunners will wait until the end of this season to try and land a new striker however, Mikel Arteta does not want to put this season in jeopardy.
According to Caught Offside, Lille forward Jonathan David is currently the top priority for the Premier League giants but they are also looking at Ajax’s Brian Brobbey as a possible alternative.
David has been with Lille since 2020 and in these four years, the 24-year-old has scored 72 goals along with 11 assists in 150 appearances for the Ligue 1 side. Last season, he scored 19 league goals from 47 shots on target and he had an xG of 17.47.
Lille have offered Jonathan David a new deal but the forward is refusing to sign it because he wants to leave France and head to the Premier League.
The other name on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist is Ajax’s 22-year-old centre-forward Brian Brobbey who has come up through the club’s famed academy and in 93 appearances for the senior side, the Netherlands international has scored 37 goals.
Like Jonathan David, Brobbey also had some insane stats in the 2023/24 season but the Lille forward is a much more seasoned pro and we believe he can have an instant impact at Arsenal.
Financially, it also makes sense to go after Jonathan David because his contract expires in 2025 and if he does not sign a new deal then Arsenal will be able to land him in a massive bargain deal. However, the major issue for the Gunners will be the fact that apart from them there are a host of other clubs who have shown an interest in the 24-year-old.
Inter have been linked with the forward and even Juventus has sent scouts to watch David in action. Back in the Premier League, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with the Canadian international and both these teams are expected to make a move in January.
Arsenal will be taking a bit of a gamble by trying to go for Brian Brobbey while Jonathan David has a much better chance of succeeding in England. Now, Mikel Arteta will have to decide whether he wants to pay an inflated price for the Lille striker by competing with so many big clubs or does he bank on the Ajax man to do the job.
