Liverpool's Jordan Henderson playing for England

England boss Gareth Southgate has come out to claim that Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson might not be included in the EURO squad for this summer – if he is not fully fit in time.

The England international underwent groin surgery at the end of February and initially, he was supposed to be available for selection after this international break. Now, it looks like he will take so more time to return to action and this delay might have put his participation in the EURO in jeopardy.

“In terms of promises, we can only say that Hendo himself is very optimistic about how the operation went and the prognosis that the specialist has given him as to what is possible,” Southgate said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“We are conscious that with any injury of that nature, there is a guide and a time defined – but that anything can happen along the way.

“We know it’s going to be close to the end of the season and we will just have to see how it goes. He will give himself every chance of being available. And, of course, we also know he is likely to be a bit short of match minutes in high-level games.

“There are a lot of things to take into consideration but, at the moment, that is a decision that is a few weeks away.”

Will Jordan Henderson miss out on the EURO?

Jordan Henderson has been out for some time now and this recent setback has not gone down too well with Gareth Southgate. The manager obviously is not willing to take any chances since he already has a really filled-up squad.

But we don’t think Henderson will be out for too long and given that Liverpool have still a lot more games to play, the club captain should be able to regain his fitness and form even if he can feature in the final few matches of the ongoing season.

So far this campaign, Jordan Henderson has played in 21 Premier League games for Liverpool but due to the injuries to Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, the midfielder has spent most of his time at centre-back, filling in for the injured defenders.
