One of the first things that Maurizio Sarri did when he took charge of Chelsea was to bring in Jorginho from Napoli.

The midfielder had been dubbed as the pass-master in the Serie A and everyone was certain he would turn the Blues into a formidable beast.

Chelsea though were anything but a beast last season as they struggled to win matches – primarily because of Jorginho, a midfielder who was brought in to build play from the deep but was constantly being bullied by his opponents.

This summer though, Maurizio Sarri took no further risks and moved back to Italy to take charge of Juventus but this time he did not want to take Jorginho with him.

And judging by his failures last season, most people had a feeling that he won’t be able to survive under new boss Frank Lampard.

But speaking in a recent interview, Jorginho has claimed that despite Maurizio Sarri and him going separate ways, he is happy with what he is learning under the new manager.

“No, I wouldn’t say I was sad,” Jorginho told Sky Sports.

“He was my coach and we had worked together for four years but the time had come to go separate ways and I am very thankful to him for giving me the opportunity and everything I learnt from him, but now it is a new page and I have a new coach and I have to work hard and learn a lot.

“We have to look ahead.

“It has been a new experience[playing under Lampard] for me. I am liking it as I am learning, which I like to do,

“I am happy I got this opportunity; I like to learn and find out more. It’s going to be beneficial to my career and the club and the team. I have an open mind to learning new experiences.”

On the opening day of the 2019-20 season, Chelsea travel to Old Trafford to take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
