Jose Mourinho Spurs Premier League

Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur with immediate effect following a series of poor results by the Premier League club in recent weeks.

The sacking comes less than a week before Spurs take on Manchester City in the EFL Cup final and this abrupt exit means City go into Sunday’s game as the favourites to pick up the title.

Tottenham have been in dismal form this season under Jose Mourinho, losing 10 and drawing 8 games in the Premier League so far. And all these dropped points mean the Lilywhites currently sit seventh on the league table.

Mourinho was brought in to lift the spirits at the club and more importantly help the club win silverware. But according to pundit Jamie Carragher, this failure at Spurs might prove to be the final nail in Jose Mourinho’s coffin.

“I don’t see Mourinho back in the Premier League, I think that ship’s sailed now,” he said on Monday Night Football. “I struggle to think of any club – he’s been at Spurs, so he’s not going to Arsenal, he’s been at United so he’s not going to City, Liverpool wouldn’t have him.

“Would he go to a middle of the table club? I just don’t see him there, I really don’t. It’s either international football or maybe Italy. The Italian champions this year will be Inter Milan, with Antonio Conte, who plays his type of football – so maybe you can get away with it a little bit more in Italy, because it was certainly a turn-off for Spurs supporters.

“I couldn’t see light at the end of the tunnel for Spurs. My argument was, was winning the Carabao Cup for Spurs supporters enough to keep Jose in a job, looking to the future?

“I always thought, keep him until the cup final, he’s great in one-off games, maybe not as much now, but I think Spurs have got less chance of winning now, and Pep Guardiola will be pleased when he sees that.

“Unless the players have gone to Daniel Levy and the feeling inside the club is that bad that they actually feel they do have more chance of winning at the weekend. Or Daniel Levy felt that if he won that cup it would make it more difficult to move him on.”

Jose Mourinho has been on a steady decline since he was sacked by Chelsea a couple of seasons ago. And from then onwards, the Portuguese manager has not done anything noteworthy.

Yes, he has won a few trophies with Manchester United but the Old Trafford side never looked a really promising unit under Mourinho’s management(not to mention the various fallouts with the players). And now to make matters worse, Jose has completely ripped apart the tradition set by Pochettino at Spurs and within just one-and-a-half season, Spurs have gone from one of the most elegant teams in England to looking completely disjointed.

After the sacking, Mourinho has hinted he is not going to take a sabbatical but after three successive failures in the Premier League, the manager should seriously think of taking a break or maybe move to another league in Europe.
