Juan Mata is out of contract at Manchester United at the end of the season and there is every possibility that he will leave for greener pastures during the summer.

Reports have it that Mata and his representatives are looking for a two-year deal but Man United are willing to offer a contract for one season.

And this is where both parties are still at odds and Juan Mata senior has now come out to claim that a number of Champions League clubs have shown interest in signing the Spaniard.

“Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy,” Mata Snr told Cadena SER(as reported).

“But there are proposals from Champions League teams.

“Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.”

While talking about the clubs who have shown interest in the Spaniard, Juan Mata senior has claimed that both Liverpool and Man City have made contact.

But the player’s dad also made it clear that Juan Mata will not not be joining either of them primarily to respect of the Man United fans.

“City? It would not be the ideal option.

“There are two options that do not [appeal]: Liverpool and City.

“We have to respect the Manchester United fans, he is held very dear here.”

Juan Mata is one of the most endearing figures at Man United and even the management have realised that.

Recently reports have claimed that United want Juan Mata to become a club ambassador after he retires from professional football.
