Tottenham Hotspur were said to be the frontrunners in signing defender Jules Kounde but as per the latest gossip, Chelsea might have jumped the queue.

Spurs were willing to offer €30m and Davinson Sanchez to Sevilla in exchange for Kounde but the defender has reportedly rejected the offer from the North London club.

Whoscored cites Marca saying: “Tottenham have suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Jules Kounde after being rejected by the Sevilla centre-back, claims Marca.

“Tottenham have been in contact over Kounde and were reportedly willing to offer €30m (£25.6m) and Davinson Sanchez as a makeweight.

“However, it has now emerged Kounde has declined the opportunity to even discuss a move with Tottenham and would prefer to spend another season with Sevilla.”

The rumours suggest Jules Kounde has rejected the offer because he wants to spend one more season with Sevilla but TeamTalk are claiming that Chelsea are now the frontrunners in signing him.

Chelsea are set to lose a few central defenders this summer which is why Thomas Tuchel is so keen to bring in a new defender before the new season kicks off. And someone like Jules Kounde will be the perfect fit.

The 22-year-old was one of the most promising players in the La Liga last season and since Sevilla are ready to cash in on him, Chelsea’s interest makes perfect sense.

Spurs were looking to wrap with this deal as soon as possible and they were hoping their cash plus player offer will be enough to sign Kounde.

No matter what anyone is saying but Jules Kounde has rejected Tottenham’s offer just cause Chelsea have bumped up their interest and if the Blues are serious about signing him then there’s no way the French international is going to snub the reigning UCL champions and head to North London.

Jules Kounde has a release clause of £70m on his contract but Sevilla are willing to let him leave for around £50-55m.
