Kaoru Mitoma turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League in January, opting to remain in Europe. However, according to an exclusive report by TBR, the Japanese winger is now planning to request a transfer at the end of the season, in order to fulfil his dream of playing for Europe’s elite clubs.

Several top teams have already shown interest in the 27-year-old with Bayern Munich and Napoli are monitoring his situation. In recent months, Chelsea have also expressed their desire to bring him to London.

Will Brighton Allow Mitoma to Leave?

Mitoma is under contract with Brighton until 2027, meaning the Seagulls are under no immediate pressure to sell. While they considered offers in January because of the huge amount of money being offered from Saudi Arabia, they are unlikely to entertain bids below €80 million in the summer.

Last year, Brighton rejected a €90 million offer for Kaoru Mitoma. However, with his contract gradually running down, they will slightly lower their asking price. Despite a slight dip in form this season, the winger remains a key player for the Seagulls squad, and the club would prefer to keep him.

That being said, Chelsea, in particular, won’t mind paying around €80-85 million for a player of Mitoma’s caliber. Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk have been massive failures and Kaoru Mitoma can be the ideal long-term solution on the left-hand side. Bayern and Napoli may hesitate to meet such a high price but are still expected to test Brighton’s resolve when the transfer window opens.

Is Kaoru Mitoma Worth €80 Million?

Mitoma’s breakout Premier League season was his most productive, with 10 goals and 7 assists in 41 appearances. However, his impact has declined since. Last season, he managed only eight goal contributions, and this season, he has recorded 10 contributions across all competitions.

On paper, his recent form might not justify an €80 million price tag, but at a club like Bayern or Chelsea, Mitoma has the potential to thrive. Surrounded by world-class talent, Kaoru Mitoma could and should rediscover his best form and he can also compete for major silverware in Germany or Italy.

Whether clubs are willing to meet Brighton’s valuation remains to be seen, but Mitoma’s future will undoubtedly be one of the biggest talking points in the summer transfer window.
