A couple of days ago, it was reported that Rangers are planning to make a move for Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe as a long-term replacement for Alfredo Morelos.

Kemar Roofe has now entered the final year of his contract and the rumours claimed the Gers were willing to pay as much as £5 million in order to sign the 26-year-old.

The Scottish Sun reported: “RANGERS look set to make a £5million swoop for Leeds striker Kemar Roofe if they cash in on Alfredo Morelos.

“SunSport can reveal Steven Gerrard has pinpointed the Elland Road hitman as his top target to replace El Buffalo.

“Ibrox director of football Mark Allen has been told to identify strikers who could fill Morelos’ boots.

And now according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, Rangers have corrupted the mind of Kemar Roofe with such a huge offer.

“Leeds are vulnerable to losing Kemar,” Whelan told Football Insider exclusively. “They are not in a good position and they are there because they failed to give him a new contract last season, when they should have.

“You cannot allow your top goalscorer to come to the final year of his contract. It’s not the way to go about keeping players. Now we could lose one of our best players because the club haven’t done their job right.

“I’ve read Rangers want to get Kemar for £5million. He’s worth double that, around £10million. Easily. It appears the player’s head has been turned with a huge contract offer from Rangers.

“Can Leeds match that? Can they match the chance to win trophies, play European football and work with a legend like Steven Gerrard?”

Football Insider have also revealed that Rangers have opened preliminary talks with Leeds United in order to sign Kemar Roofe and Steven Gerrard is very hopeful that the English side will be ready to part ways with their frontman.

While most experts believe that £5 million will not force Leeds United to sell Kemar Loofe but given that he has entered the final year of his contract, it would not be a surprise if they buckle under pressure and let the 26-year-old go.
