Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne picked up a nasty injury during the recently concluded Champions League final but fortunately, the playmaker has made a superb recovery.

KDB fractured his nose and a bone around his left eye socket after a heavy collision with Antonio Rudiger and he had to be immediately taken off the pitch. His injury was not only a blow to Man City’s hopes in the final but it was also a major problem for Belgian manager Roberto Martinez.

There was a big chance that Kevin De Bruyne will miss EURO 2020, more so since he had to go under the knife. The Belgium manager though has come out to reveal that the surgery was a really minor one and that De Bruyne will be available for selection in the coming week.

“It[the surgery] went very well, very positively. We are looking forward to Monday when he will join our squad,” Martinez told reporters on Saturday.

“That small intervention was necessary with a view to the long term. He will not need a long recovery.

“The operation only took 20 minutes. The medical staff is satisfied with the result. De Bruyne is now doing well, that’s all.”

Belgium take on Croatia in a pre-tournament warm-up game on Sunday and Martinez’s team selection in this match should give us an idea as to how his starting XI will look for for the European Championship.

Kevin De Bruyne is going to join the squad at the start of the week so he is not expected to play a part in this match. But he will definitely be named in the starting line-up when Belgium take on Russia in their tournament opener next weekend.
