Arsenal take on Newcastle United in the EPL on Monday and they are likely to be without Kieran Tierney and Pablo Mari when Steve Bruce’s side come to town.

The Gunners were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace on Thursday and full-back Kieran Tierney had to pull out just before the match due to a muscle injury. And it seems like Mikel Arteta is still in the dark about the extent of the injury.

Arteta said: “We don’t know [how long he’ll be out for]. We’ll probably know more on Friday after testing him and knowing more about the injury and how long he’s going to be out for.

“Certainly it was a big disappointment on the day of the match to lose him, but hopefully he can be with us very quickly.”

Kieran Tierney has been one of the best players in the Arsenal squad this season and his latest injury causes a lot of problems for the Gunners.

Also, if this was not enough then Arteta also confirmed that centre-back Pablo Mari is also going to be on the sidelines for a few weeks after picking up a calf injury in training.

The manager added, as reported: “He has a calf injury that happened in training yesterday. I think he will miss a few matches.

“He’s another one that we lose, but we’ve got Gabi [Magalhaes] back after the Covid, which is good news and we’ve got Thomas back as well. Let’s focus on the positives.”

These two injuries will really give Newcastle United a lot of hope when they come to the Emirates on Monday.

With Gabriel coming back, the central defensive role should not be an issue for Arteta but if Kieran Tierney is not fit in time then someone like Bukayo Saka will have to play in the left-back role.
