Liverpool surprisingly slumped to yet another home loss in the Premier League, this time going down 1-0 to Fulham on Sunday.

The loss means Liverpool are now eight on the league table and have lost four of their previous five league games. And if teams like Villa and West Ham can manage to win their games in hand then the Anfield outfit could fall further behind in the top-four race.

Obviously, Liverpool looked flat once again and according to manager Jurgen Klopp, his players have lost the key winning mentality and this is perhaps the single biggest reason for their recent slump in form.

The manager told Liverpoolfc.com: “I had a few interviews and tried to explain it. We had to make some changes and wanted to make some more, and it is then clear that it takes a little bit of time to adapt – especially when you know that Fulham is in a really good moment and is anyway a good football-playing side.

“So that was clear. We started OK with our direction, especially when we sent Mo in behind. We had there moments, didn’t use them, they had their moments when they played behind our last line, of course, but we didn’t concede a goal [then].

“We conceded a goal in the moment when obviously we didn’t expect it and it was only a few minutes before half-time. But we got then more and more used to each other and played some good stuff, created chances, had chances, didn’t score.

“Then the longer the game goes, obviously in our situation it’s not that you get stronger and stronger and stronger. It gets a little bit lesser again and that’s why we lost.”

Yes, Klopp made a few changes to his line-up on Sunday but the reality is that even the players who took the field were more than capable of beating Fulham – a team who are still stuck in the relegation zone despite winning at Anfield.

Starters players like Salah, Jota and subs like Mane and Fabinho could only manage three shots on target during the 90 minutes and that’s just not acceptable from the defending league champions.

Liverpool are in deep trouble right now and many pundits feel that the only way for them to remain in the Champions League next season is to win it this time around.

And they will have to take a massive step towards that as Jurgen Klopp side are back in the Champions League in midweek when they take on RB Leipzig in the second leg of the Round of 16.
