Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has been tipped to move out of the club during the January transfer window and according to Alex McLeish, this could hand a key advantage to Rangers FC in the title race.

“I think he would be a big loss,” McLeish told Football Insider.

“Despite recent form, which you have to allow for – players can’t be phenomenal every week, although if he is going to be a top, top player then his consistency has to be like 40, 50 games a season at the top level.

“He will be learning that as well he is still a young man, an ambitious guy and if Celtic were to lose him then that would be a real boost to the rest of the teams in the country, including Rangers.”

Kristoffer Ajer was linked with an exit during the summer but Celtic FC managed to hold onto him for the 2020-21 season. But recent rumours suggest the Bhoys are willing to part ways with him if a club is willing to pay somewhere around £12million.

French side OGC Nice are currently the frontrunners in signing the 22-year-old and if he leaves during the middle of the season then it will undoubtedly be a massive loss for the Parkhead outfit.

Ajer joined Celtic FC in 2016 and over the years, he’s turned himself into a key figure in central defence for the Glasgow side.

The Bhoys are 16 points behind league leaders Rangers FC with three games in hand but if a player like Kristoffer Ajer is allowed to leave during the middle of the season then there’s every chance Celtic drop even more points over the next few months.
