Right now Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk is the best defender in world football and no one really comes close to the big Dutchman.

Ever since Liverpool brought him in from Southampton, the 27-year-old has brought about a sense of calm in the back third and unlike last season, the Reds have stopped leaking goals.

While a number of people at Southampton would be boasting with the fact that they brought in Van Dijk to England but a large chunk of the credit should also go to Celtic.

Celtic brought Virgil Van Dijk to the United Kingdom when they bought him from Dutch club Groningen back in 2013.

And after spending two full seasons with the Bhoys, Virgil Van Dijk eventually went to join the Saints.

Now it looks like, Celtic have already managed to unearth another Virgil Van Dijk.

A number of people have started comparing 20-year-old Kristoffer Ajer with the Dutch international and many believe the youngster has the potential to become a top-class player.

During the past couple of weeks, Ajer has started performing really well but pundit Chris Sutton has refused to ride the bandwagon.

While comparing Ajer with Van Dijk, Sutton said on BT Sport: “No. I like him, and I thought he performed very well against Rangers. I just don’t want to get ahead of myself on Kristoffer Ajer.

“He is a young, confident player. I like him on the ball, and when he steps in, I think he is very good, but there’s still work to be done.

“He needs to be consistent over a longer period of time. I think the recent signs have been encouraging.”

Ajer has played in 22 Premier League games this season and during the past couple of games, the 20-year-old has really looked rock solid.

But it is certainly too early to compare the Norway international with someone like Virgil Van Dijk.
