West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma picked up a knock during the win over Chelsea this past weekend and the Hammers have just confirmed the worst.

The club have established that the summer signing has sustained a hamstring injury which means he is going to be on the sidelines for the next few months.

And if this was not enough bad news then full-back Ben Johnson has also picked up a hamstring injury but his problem is minor which means he will be back in action pretty soon.

The official statement read: “West Ham United can confirm that Kurt Zouma sustained a hamstring tendon injury during Saturday’s Premier League victory against Chelsea.

“A scan on Monday revealed the damage and the 27-year-old French international defender has already started his recovery programme at Rush Green under the supervision of the medical team.

“Meanwhile, Ben Johnson has also started his rehabilitation after suffering a low-grade hamstring strain during the 3-2 win against our London rivals.

“Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish both Kurt and Ben all the very best in their recovery.”

Who will replace Kurt Zouma in the second half of the season?

West Ham signed Kurt Zouma for £29.8 million and he’s turned out to be a really impactful signing this season, featuring in 11 Premier League games so far.

But since Angelo Ogbonna is already out for the rest of the season, Zouma’s injury is going to be a major problem for the West Ham boss.

The Hammers have made a strong statement of intent after beating Chelsea but if they wish to hold onto a Champions League spot then they will have to bring in a new central defender in January.

As per some rumours, West Ham United are planning to make a move for Burnley’s James Tarkowski, a player who has been on Moyes’ radar for some time.

The centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season but still, Burnley might not be ready to sell him during the middle of the season. But signing a central defender is of the utmost priority for West Ham so they’ll leave no stone unturned, that’s for sure.

James Tarkowski has spent all his life in English football so instead of gambling on a non-PL player, it would make perfect sense if David Moyes makes a move for the 29-year-old next month.

Kurt Zouma will undoubtedly be a big miss for West Ham United but if the club can bring in the Burnley defender next month then a lot of Moyes’ temporary problems will be solved.
