Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi got a rare start this week vs Grimsby Town in the League Cup clash and he repaid the faith with 2 goals.

The Blues won the match 7-1 and the Belgian international was one of the standout players for Frank Lampard’s side on Wednesday.

And speaking after the win, the Chelsea manager has admitted that Michy Batshuayi deserves more minutes on the pitch after working hard in training.

“He has worked hard and trained well,” Lampard told the club’s official website.

“He came on at Wolves and made an impact, came on against Liverpool and nearly made an impact and that is great for me when you give a message and someone shows they can train daily and improve there.

“Michy has talent, he can hold the ball up and use both feet and can score goals, and he is important for us.

“He got his chance and scored goals tonight which is good because we need options upfront.”

The forward joined in 2016 from Marseille but during these past three years the 25-year-old has moved around Europe in various loan spells but new manager Frank Lampard chose to keep him at the club hinting that he could feature regularly.

But so far Michy Batshuayi has played only 32 minutes across 3 Premier League during the 2019-20 season as the manager clearly favours Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud as his regular strikers.

But these words of encouragement will surely go a long way to boost the player’s confidence and there are already whispers that the 25-year-old could start vs Brighton this weekend.

While this will be music to the ears of Michy Batshuayi but we think that the forward will only get a place on the bench on Saturday given that Giroud is still ill and Tammy Abraham is the first-choice striker for the Blues in the Premier League.
