Chelsea are looking to make a move for Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola but they could face some stiff competition from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Express.

The report claims: “Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham have been given an insight into what they could be getting as a potential transfer battle over Leonardo Spinazzola looms.

“Both Chelsea and Spurs are set to upgrade their fullback and wing-back options in the summer transfer window.

“Chelsea are set to move to make that position[left-back] one of their priorities in the summer window, with Spinazzola fast becoming an option.

“But they could face competition from Tottenham, who are set to have the added advantage of having Spinazzola’s former manager in their dugout.”

Leonardo Spinazzola on his way to the Premier League?

Chelsea are set to part ways with Emerson and even Marcos Alonso could be on his way out of the club in the next few months. So, trying to sign someone like Leonardo Spinazzola makes perfect sense.

But Spurs are also looking into the left-back and this could cause a few problems for Thomas Tuchel and his summer transfer plans.

Ideally, the Lilywhites have no need for a new left-back since they already have players like Reguilon, Davies and Sessegnon in the first-team squad. But this will all depend on the views of the new manager who comes in to take charge.

Spinazzola is set to up his value thanks to his fine performances with Italy in the European Championship but he has three more years left on his current deal with AS Roma so theoretically, the Italian side are in no hurry to part ways with him.

As per TransferMarkt, Leonardo Spinazzola is valued at £23.40m but if he can have a great outing with the national side then there’s a big chance Roma will try and cash in on him by heavily inflating his transfer price.

We feel Tottenham should not waste money on the 28-year-old left-back when they already have so many left-backs in their side. But for Chelsea, he could become a necessary signing if both Emerson and Alonso leave this summer.
