Tottenham Hotspur take on Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday and a lot of things are at stake in the outcome of this match.
Leicester City have suddenly fallen out of the top-four after their midweek loss to Chelsea and Spurs, on the other hand, are struggling to hold onto their Europa League spot.
The Foxes are behind fourth-placed Liverpool on goal difference so ideally, they will need to pick up a win on Sunday and then hope that Jurgen Klopp’s side fail to win against Palace on the very same day.
Tottenham Hotspur though are in a slightly more comfortable position since only a win vs Leicester City will be more than enough for them to finish above both Everton as well as Arsenal.
And according to Spurs interim boss Ryan Mason, this do or die attitude is going to make things a lot more interesting when his side face the recently crowned FA Cup champions.
Mason said in his press conference: “An intense game. Both teams are playing for something – obviously they’ve got their own ambitions and we have ours, so it’s going to be a game where both teams are going to have to be fully focused.
“I’m sure we both respect each other, we respect them as a football team and a football club, but our attention has to be on us and how we can win the game. The desire is to win, that’s the most important thing.
“Like I said, Wednesday hurt – it did – just the manner in which it happened is tough to take but the beauty of football is we’ve got another game three or four days later so we have to pick ourselves up and be in the right frame of mind to hopefully go and get three points.
“Obviously we were in control of the situation on Wednesday but unfortunately the result didn’t go as planned. I’ve said all along, it’s not easy to win games in the Premier League and we’ve continued to see that, so the weekend will be no different but we have to go there with confidence.”
Leicester City’s season has had a complete turnaround in the past week and they will need a lot of things to work in their favour if they wish to get back into the top four by the end of the weekend.
So, ideally, the onus will be on them to take the risks on Sunday and Tottenham could very easily use this to their advantage and hit the home side on counter-attacks.
