Arsene Wenger stepped down as the manager of Arsenal at the end of the season after a 22-year long association with the Gunners and Unai Emery has been given the responsibility of bringing back the glory days at the Emirates.

Since taking charge of the London outfit, Unai Emery has brought in five new signings while selling off two players from the current squad.

Centre-back Per Mertesacker has retired from professional football while Arsenal have also offloaded long-term injury absentee Santi Cazorla who has headed back to Spain and joined Villarreal.

But former Gunners keeper David Seaman feels that Unai Emery’s biggest mistake so far is to be Jack Wilshere move out of the club.

Wilshere moved West Ham United last week on a three-year deal after the club announced that the midfielder would not be renewing his contract at the Emirates.

While the Gunners wanted to keep Jack Wilshere at the club but Unai Emery’s failure to guarantee a first-team spot to the 26-year-old prompted him to move out on a free transfer and David Seeman feels that Emery should have held onto him.

Talking to Paddy Power, Seaman said: “I don’t know a whole pile about Unai Emery, but I certainly wouldn’t have let Jack Wilshere leave Arsenal,

“He is a player who can unlock defences, he’s got that little bit of magic.

“Everyone keeps banging on about his injuries, but why not offer him a pay-as-you-play contract, then?

“I hate seeing good players leave Arsenal. I saw when people like Robin van Persie, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri went and doubled their wages overnight, so I could understand it from their point of view.

“However, the fact that we were letting our best players go was really annoying – and I feel like we’ve done that again with Jack.

“It’s sad to see him go because he was Arsenal.

“He was, as the fans chant, ‘one of our own’, but now he’s gone to West Ham. They’ll be a better team with him.”
