Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic has turned down a new contract at the club and it looks like Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool are set to make a move for him.

This is not the first time these two English sides have been linked with the 21-year-old but in a recent statement, Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has more or less confirmed that the club will not be able to hold onto Vlahovic.

He said, as reported: “As you know, Fiorentina made a very significant offer to the player. Our proposal would have made him the highest paid player in the history of the club.

“We also improved our offer on a number of occasions in order to accommodate the requests of both Dusan and his entourage. However, despite our efforts, those offers have not been accepted.

“During my time in Florence over the past few weeks, I have personally endeavoured to find a solution that would make both the player and the club happy, but I am disappointed to say that our efforts and attempts have not been rewarded.

“At this point, all that we can do is acknowledge the wishes of the player and his entourage and quickly identify feasible, appropriate solutions as we proceed with this exciting new season.”

Dusan Vlahovic joining Liverpool or Arsenal?

Dusan Vlahovic joined Fiorentina in 2018 and since then, he’s been one of the standout players for the Serie A side.

Last season, the forward netted 34 goals in 37 league matches and this campaign, he’s already scored seven in seven games. And given his age, he has a lot of time to improve and sharpen his skills.

His current deal expires in 2023 so it’s more than certain that Fiorentina will cash in on him at the end of this season.

With Lacazette leaving, Dusan Vlahovic will immediately become the first-choice centre-forward should he join Arsenal but at the Emirates, he will not be able to get Champions League football.

At Liverpool, he might have to fight for his place in the side but he will not only get to play in Europe but will also have a great chance at winning all the major trophies.

Theoretically, Vlahovic’s choice should be really simple but if Arsenal can somehow manage to get back into Europe next season then they will have a chance to go head to head with Liverpool for the signing of the 21-year-old.
