Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled off a sensational victory against Liverpool to knock them out of the FA Cup.

Liverpool goes crashing out of the FA Cup after they were humbled and to some extent humiliated by Paul Lambert’s side. Lambert’s Wolves put in a fine display for the full 90 minutes as they pulled off a sensational victory. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp put out a so called second team against Wolves hoping that it would be another regulation win in front of the Anfield crowd. But Lambert’s side were not about to go down without a fight. And what a fight they put up.

First Half:

Liverpool suffered an early setback as Richard Stearman put the Wolves ahead in the very first minute of the game. It was a finely taken header by Stearman and Wolverhampton had something to hold on to. But everyone thought that Liverpool had enough time in their to stage a comeback. But the Liverpool side seemed to be playing in a different dimension altogether. They looked lacklustre and out of sorts for most of the first half.

Jurgen Klopp was desperately looking for the half time whistle so that he could get a chance to regroup his players. But before that could happen Wolves struck another blow on Liverpool hopes. They scored another goal in the 41st minute. This time thanks to so fine breakaway play and a cool finish from Andreas Weimann.

Second Half:

In the second half, Liverpool attacked the Kopp End as Klopp brought on Philip Coutinho to change the tide of the game. But nothing seemed to be working for Jurgen as Liverpool failed to get any kind of breakthrough. He brought on Daniel Sturridge in the 65th minute of the match.

Liverpool had all the possession in the world but that, unfortunately, doesn’t reflect on the scoreline. The Wolves defence stood strong and did not let Liverpool pass. Liverpool did manage to pull one back in the 86th minute thanks to Origi and in all honesty, Paul Lambert’s team did spend the ten minute a bit under pressure. But his side held on to come out with an absolutely shocking result at Anfield.

Another trophyless season for Liverpool?

This is Liverpool’s third loss within seven days and the pressure is surely on Jurgen Klopp now. The last two defeats saw them crashing out of two knockout competitions and they are also falling behind in the Premier League race. It looks as if Liverpool will have to go another year trophyless.
