Arsenal had recently been linked with an interest in Real Betis’ 26-year-old midfielder Guido Rodriguez and as per the latest updates, Liverpool have also joined the race.

Mundo Deportivo had very recently claimed: “Arsenal intends to push hard this coming summer for the signing of Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez, who has become a bastion of Real Betis midfield since his arrival at the Verdiblanco club in January 2020, from America de México.

Liverpool are set to lose Gini Wijnaldum on a free transfer this summer and maybe this is why they want Rodriguez as a long-term replacement. During the ongoing season, the 26-year-old has been a pillar in defensive & central midfield for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and it’s not really shocking to see two big Premier League sides keen to sign him.

Can Arsenal challenge Liverpool to the signing of Guido Rodriguez?

According to the previous reports, Arsenal want to sign Guido Rodriguez as the partner for Thomas Partey next season but the Gunners will have to shell out €80 million if they wish to get their hands on him.

The Argentinian will undoubtedly add quality to whichever side he joins in the summer but as things stand both Arsenal and Liverpool will not be able to afford such an enormous fee.

Wijnaldum will leave on a free transfer meaning the Anfield outfit will have to everything out of their own pockets if they wish to sign Rodriguez for the upcoming season. And there’s no way the club’s owners will sanction such a massive transfer fee for a single player.

Arsenal are also going to work on a limited budget if they miss out on Champions League football next season so they are also floating in the same boat as their domestic rivals.

Guido Rodriguez is a key figure in Pellegrini’s side right now and the midfielder still has three more years left on his deal. So Betis are in no hurry to cash in on him and this will make lives even harder for the two English sides.
