Liverpool Football Club head into the 2017/18 seasons as one of the title contenders. They possess a devastating attack, a formidable midfield but a questionable defence. Nonetheless, the onus would be on Liverpool to outscore their opponents if need be.

Let us assess their performance in the transfer window.

Ins:

Dominic Solanke

Signing Dominic Solanke was done with the motive of using the youngster as a backup for this season atleast. He had a stellar time with the England U-20 team in the World Cup, scoring 4 goals en route to winning the championship with England. The loaning out of Divock Origi clearly meant that he is very much in Klopp’s plans this season.

Andy Robertson

An area where Liverpool had to strengthen this transfer window. While James Milner did a commendable job at LB last season, he still isn’t an out and out LB. Alberto Moreno simply isn’t good enough for the role, and Robertson seems to be an upgrade. Good business from Klopp as he acquired a decent left back with proven PL experience. He showed glimpses of his talent in the game against Palace and Liverpool can expect more of the same from the Scotsman.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah was a risky prospect. His previous stint in the Premier League was underwhelming, to say the least.

Though he did redeem himself by shining at Roma, there were doubters who felt he couldn’t shine in the Premier League. Fast forward to today, he is now one-third of one of the most menacing attacks in the league. He has scored 2 goals in three games and looking at how threatening Liverpool are on the counter, that number is only going to increase.

Oxlade Chamberlain

Though the lad possesses massive bags of talent, he couldn’t really live up to the hype at Arsenal, simply because he wasn’t given enough opportunities.

It still remains to be seen as to how he would fit in Klopp’s system but with his signing, Liverpool have added quality and depth to their midfield. Chamberlain will take a massive part, as Liverpool are gunning on all fronts this campaign.

Overall, it has been a fairly satisfying summer for Liverpool. They did miss out on key transfer targets, one of whom is van Dijk. Their defence, especially through the centre is vulnerable and set pieces seems to be their Achilles heel. The goalkeepers are also not up to the mark, and maybe that department will come to haunt them as the season progresses.

Another of their target, Naby Keita; has agreed terms and will join Liverpool next year.

Let’s see how it all takes shape for Klopp’s men, as we head into another exciting edition of the Premier League.
