Klopp makes honest admission about Liverpool’s postponed game vs Arsenal: Putting unnecessary pressure?

The 1st leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Arsenal had to be cancelled due to a COVID outbreak within the Liverpool camp but according to Jurgen Klopp, most of those results were false positives.

In the buildup to that game, Alisson, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino were already out with COVID and then Klopp and his assistant Pep Lijnders had also tested positive.

With three key players already out, a fresh outbreak was detected and due to this, Liverpool had urged the authorities to postpone the 1st leg of the semi-final. The authorities duly obliged with this appeal but now the Liverpool boss has confessed that most of those reports were actually false positives.

“The situation is just like this,” Klopp explained (via the Liverpool Echo). “We had what we thought last week was a proper outbreak and it showed up that we had a lot of false positive results actually.

“But the rules are like they are so all these players who are false positives couldn’t play today. Or we decided not to play them or whatever.

“Could we have played them? I don’t know exactly but we had to make that decision.

“The only real extra positive from the team came from Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives, so it was a really tough week because the boys couldn’t train.

“We had to close the training ground because you have two extra testing grounds, so it’s really difficult.”

Have Liverpool put unnecessary pressure on themselves?

The postponement means the second leg will now actually be the first leg and then the 2nd leg will be played on the 20th of January.

This useless delay means Liverpool will take on have a jam-packed schedule until the end of the month as they take on teams like Brentford and Palace in the Premier League(both of whom can very well snatch away points) and then obviously they have to face the Gunners twice.

On paper, Liverpool should be winning all these matches but they have sent out several first-team regulars to the AFCON and this is the perfect opportunity for teams like Arsenal and Brentford to cause an upset.

Liverpool have already dropped two points against Chelsea and if they were to drop any more points then Manchester City are going to run away with the league title.
