Liverpool injuries before Man City: How many players are expected to make a comeback?

Liverpool are having a terrible season and things could get even worse because next up, they will face Manchester City, away from home.

The Reds have a long injury list going into Saturday’s crunch game with as many as six players missing but thankfully, some of them should be back to full fitness.

Liverpool lost two games on the trot before the international break began and one of them was the 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid. The exit from the Champions League means the Anfield outfit will go trophyless this season so they now only have the top-four spot to fight for.

Which injured players could return this weekend?

Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo both pulled out of international duty but the pair should be fit face to Manchester City.

Nunez withdrew from international duty due to a cut ankle and right now he is a question mark for Saturday’s away trip. The Uruguay international is set to report to training later this week and that’s when the medical staff will take the final call.

However, the forward has gotten two weeks to make a recovery so we think he will be ready and raring to go.

Cody Gakpo should also be fully fit and available for selection after he did not play for the Netherlands due to illness.

Which Liverpool players are likely to miss out?

Luis Diaz has been missing from action since October due to a knee injury and he is yet to return to first-team training. The winger was supposed to be back in December but his rehab got stretched due to surgery.

Thiago Alcantara is another big name who will miss the Manchester City game because the midfielder is recovering from a hip flexor injury and he’s expected to make a comeback sometime towards the end of April.

Stefan Bajcetic and Calvin Ramsey are both long-term injuries as they have been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Will all the injury problems be a headache for Klopp?

Yes, Thiago and Diaz’s absence will be a big miss for the Liverpool manager but Jurgen Klopp will be more than happy if Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo are marked fit.

The two forwards are just starting to find their feet at the club so the Liverpool boss wouldn’t want them to miss such a crucial game. Firmino and Jota have just come back from long injury lay-offs so they won’t be the first-choice forwards on Saturday.

When Liverpool are on song they have the capability to defeat any team but consistency has been the major problem for them throughout this campaign. They have already lost eight league games this season but losing will not be an option this weekend.

No matter who is missing, Klopp will have no room for excuses when his side take on Manchester City because if Liverpool miss out on a Champions League spot then none of these justifications will matter.
