Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool towards the end of the summer window but the winger is yet to feature for the Premier League giants.

Liverpool have a very quiet summer but bringing in someone like him was a big statement of intent from the new manager. The Italian international did not play during the international so that he could work on fitness and everyone was certain he would make his debut against Nottingham Forest.

However, Arne Slot has said that Federico Chiesa is yet to become match-fit. He missed the Forest game on Saturday and the 26-year-old is also a major doubt for the game against Milan.

“Chiesa has trained three or four times,” he told reporters before the Forest game. “So let’s see how he does today because we have more than 20 players to choose from.”

Liverpool suffered their first loss under Arne Slot as Nottingham Forest shocked them at Anfield, picking up a 1-0 win. The players will have to quickly dust themselves back up because on Tuesday night they head to Italy to take on Milan in the Champions League.

Slot will ideally want to make a few changes to his starting lineup in midweek so the likes of Gakpo and Nunez are expecting to play some part. However, if Federico Chiesa misses out again, the manager will not be too worried. Chiesa can play multiple roles but he is primarily a left-winger and the Liverpool manager has Luis Diaz in that position.

Diaz has scored three goals and provided one assist so far this season so that left-wing position is sorted but the manager would have loved to use Federico Chiesa up front because both Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have been bang average.

Unless the 26-year-old massively builds up his fitness in the next two days, Chiesa is going to make his first Liverpool appearance next weekend when the Reds host AFC Bournemouth.
