Liverpool take on Everton in the Merseyside Derby but before that, Pep Guardiola seems to have played a very subtle mind game with Jurgen Klopp.

Man City beat Burnley FC 4-1 on Tuesday night meaning they have now moved to within eight points of leaders Liverpool – playing one more game than the Anfield outfit.

Liverpool host Everton on Wednesday and according to Guardiola his players cannot think of winning the Premier League title right now.

“For the distance we have with Liverpool it would be crazy to think about the title,” said Guardiola[as reported by ESPN].

“Like everyone say we are out, we have no chance.

“We are thinking about ourselves and the next game. To think how many ways to win to be close is a stupid way to think.”

At first glance, this statement might look like an acceptance of defeat from the Man City boss but you have to read between the lines to truly understand the gameplay from the Spaniard.

With this simple and humble statement, Guardiola has just put more pressure on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp right before the Merseyside Derby.

Everton might be in a poor run of form but it is more or less certain that Marco Silva will go all out on Wednesday cause this might be the last chance for him to save his job at Goodison Park.

And keeping this in mind, Liverpool will surely have to be extra cautious – more so since their defence has been faltering during the past couple of weeks.
