Liverpool's Jordan Henderson playing for England

Liverpool had the golden chance to move above Manchester City and claim the top spot on the Premier League table but all they could do is pick up a single point from their trip to the Etihad on Sunday.

This game was important for various reasons because, after this, Man City do not play any of the traditional top-six teams whereas Liverpool still need to face teams like Man United and Tottenham Hotspur.

A draw is unmistakably better than a defeat but Jurgen Klopp will not be happy with how his side were second-best for most of the match and on several occasions, his players looked completely dazed and out of ideas.

Liverpool have a Champions League game in midweek so they will have to quickly shift their focus to that match but we think the chance to overtake Man City in the league might have just slipped away from Jurgen Klopp’s hands.

Liverpool player ratings vs Man City:

Alisson: 7/10

The keeper was beaten by a cruel deflection for the first goal but apart from that, he made a few good saves to keep Liverpool in the match.

Joel Matip: 6.5/10

He had a few issues dealing with the trickery of Phil Foden but overall, the central defender did not have any other flustering moments.

Van Dijk: 7.1/10

The Dutch international was rock-solid as usual.

Thiago: 6.8/10

The Spaniard was really lucky to remain on the pitch despite some very rash and unwanted tackles. He failed to influence the game too much simply cause the match was being played at a pace that was far beyond the ex-Bayern player’s capabilities.

Fabinho: 7/10

Fabinho made 10 recoveries along with one major block but for the most part of the match, the likes of De Bruyne and Silva caused him massive problems.

Henderson: 6.5/10

The Liverpool captain was completely useless in this match as he provided nothing while going forward nor was he successful in keeping the Man City attackers in check.

Mo Salah: 7.9/10

The Egyptian was missing for most of the first half but in the second half, he came alive, providing the assist for Sadio Mane’s goal.

Jota: 7.9/10

Diogo Jota was the one who scored the first goal for Liverpool and had he not scored right after Man City had gone infront then the home side could very easily have taken full control of the match.

Sadio Mane: 7.8/10

Mane scored the second equaliser in the 46th minute but apart from that, he did not do anything noteworthy in the match.

Substitutes:

Luis Diaz: N/A

He had only 11 touches of the ball during his 20 minutes on the pitch.

Naby Keita: N/A

Firmino: N/A
