Liverpool are on a superb run of form and they will look to consolidate their top position further when they face Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds have opened up an 8-point lead at the top of the Premier League table and if they can beat Guardiola’s team, it will be a massive boost to their title hopes. While Liverpool are undefeated in their previous 15 matches across all competitions, Man City are winless in their last 6 games.
City, quite surprisingly, have lost five out of their last six matches and they are extremely low in confidence. This is the ideal time for Liverpool to be facing Man City and since Arne Slot’s side are playing at home, the Reds will go all out for a win.
Liverpool have been the primary challengers to City’s dominance in recent years and currently, they are undefeated in 25 of their last 26 home matches against Guardiola’s side. The Anfield outfit beat Real Madrid in midweek so they will go into this tie with massive confidence and if Slot’s boys can get things right early enough then Man City are probably staring at yet another defeat.
Liverpool’s team news and injuries:
Ibrahima Konate picked up an injury during the win over Real Madrid and he along with Conor Bradley are major doubts for Sunday.
The Liverpool manager told the media: “They are still being assessed so it’s difficult to say where they are in terms of the injuries.
“Let’s wait and see but it is never a good sign if players… Conor, I had to take him off and Ibou didn’t walk off the pitch as he should have after such a fantastic game that he played. He should have made a round [of the pitch] and clapped the fans but unfortunately, he couldn’t so that’s not a good sign.
“They are still being assessed and it is so close after the game yesterday night, and I just came off the training pitch. So, I can’t tell you exactly where they are, so we have to wait and see where they are this weekend and after that.”
Thankfully, Trent has come back from his injury and he will be available for selection. With Conor Bradley expected to miss out, TAA will come straight into the first XI.
If Konate does not make the cut then Joe Gomez will have to partner Van Dijk and this will be the only area of concern for the Liverpool manager. If Erling Haaland and De Bruyne can find their sync early on then Gomez could find it difficult to control them.
Arne Slot has been favouring Curtis Jones over Dominik Szoboszlai in the No. 10 role and for Sunday the manager will stick to the same tactics.
Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are battling for the left wing but the latter has made 7 goal contributions this season so it’s safe to say that the Colombian international will get the nod vs Man City.
Liverpool predicted lineup vs Man City:
Goalkeeper: Kelleher.
Defenders: Joe Gomez, Van Dijk, Trent, Robertson.
Midfielders: Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Curtis Jones.
Attackers: Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Nunez.
