Liverpool team news vs Spurs: Jordan Henderson to return in midfield?

Liverpool were the team to beat at the start of the 2020-21 season but right now, they seem to be the most stressed side in the EPL.

The Reds were beaten at their home turf by Burnley last week and then they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United. Things could get worse by the end of this week as Liverpool head to London to take on Jose Mourinho’s Spurs on Thursday.

Liverpool have failed to win their last 5 matches in the Premier League and even though their injury list is gradually shortening, Klopp will still be without some very important first-team players.

Also, the Anfield outfit have not scored in their last four league matches and looking at how Jose Mourinho is famous for parking the bus, Liverpool could once again draw a blank in midweek.

EPL: Liverpool team news & injuries vs Spurs

Alisson starts in goal with Fabinho and Joel Matip starting in central defence. Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are still long-term injury absentees.

Alexander-Arnold has been really poor over the past couple of weeks but Jurgen Klopp will not hit the panic button just yet and will hand the England international a start vs Spurs.

Jordan Henderson missed the EPL game vs Burnley plus the FA Cup loss against Man United with a muscle injury and he is facing a race against time to be fit for the Spurs game.

If the midfielder is deemed fit then he will start alongside Thiago or it will be Shaqiri who will play in midfield beside the former Bayern Munich man and Wijnaldum.

Sadio Mane started on the bench at Old Trafford on Sunday as Curtis Jones played on the left-wing. Mane will return to the starting line-up in midweek with Mo Salah operating on the right-wing.

Roberto Firmino has been utterly underwhelming so far this season in the EPL but the Brazilian will still play up front with Divock Origi starting on the bench.

Naby Keita and Diogo Jota are still sidelined with injuries and are currently ruled out for the Spurs game.

Liverpool are somehow managing to hold onto the fourth spot on the league table with 34 points. Spurs, on the other hand, have played one game less than Klopp’s side and are just one point behind them so if Mourinho side can pick up a win on Thursday then they move above Liverpool into the top-four of the EPL table.
