Liverpool team news vs West Bromwich Albion: Sadio Mane to be on the bench again?

Liverpool gave their top-four hopes a massive boost by beating Manchester United 4-2 on Thursday and those three points have taken them to the fifth spot on the table.

The Anfield outfit have played a game less than the top four sides so if they can manage to pick up a win on Sunday against West Bromwich Albion then Jurgen Klopp side could very well retain their Champions League spot next season.

The Baggies are going to play in the Championship next season so they do not have much to fight for except their pride. Under Sam Allardyce, West Brom had improved quite a bit so they will definitely try and make this difficult for the away side on Sunday.

Liverpool are undefeated in their last 7 matches in the Premier League and their win against Manchester United has given them a much-needed confidence booster. And if we club that with West Brom’s form this season, then we are pretty sure that Liverpool will head back home with all three points.

Liverpool team news vs West Bromwich Albion:

Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips did a stellar job in central defence against Manchester United and the pair have done more than enough to guarantee another start in the first XI.

Robertson and especially Trent Alexander Arnold were brilliant in midweek and the pair will obviously be the first-choice full-backs on Sunday.

Williams and Phillips playing in central defence allows Fabinho to play in that defensive midfielder’s role with Wijnaldum and Thiago playing as the other two midfielders.

Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and James Milner all remain on the sidelines with injuries but Curtis Jones will be available from the bench. Klopp would have loved to rest either Wijnaldum or Thiago but given how they badly need all three points, the manager is not going to take any gambles.

Roberto Firmino scored a brace vs Manchester United so he has more or less secured his place in the starting line-up alongside Mo Salah. But it will be interesting to see how Jurgen Klopp deals with the Sadio Mane situation.

Mane started on the bench against Man United as Diogo Jota was chosen on the left wing. And the former Wolves man did not disappoint, scoring Liverpool’s first goal of the night. So logically speaking Jota should be getting the nod ahead of Mane on Sunday.

But if the Liverpool manager opts for a rotation policy then Sadio Mane is likely to come back into the side.
