Liverpool urged not to make the ‘Frank Lampard mistake’ with Gerrard: Different prospects?

Liverpool have a long-term vision of replacing their current boss Jurgen Klopp with Steven Gerrard but after Frank Lampard’s recent struggles, Jamie Carragher wants his former side to take things slow.

The pundit said on Sky Sports, as reported: “That’s what I’m talking about with Frank, I actually admire him for the job he did last year and what’s happening now – I loved his interview after the game.

“When I look at a lot of managers now; Frank being one, going into a top job after his time at Derby, the experience isn’t there.

“He hasn’t got the job on the fact of being a great manager, he’s got the job on the fact of Chelsea and Frank Lampard. Gary (Neville) went to Valencia, big job – how can you say no? How can Frank say no? But they don’t have that experience to fall back on.

“(Thierry) Henry goes to Monaco, the same. They’re the ups and downs of coaching. Steven Gerrard’s gone to Rangers and is doing really well, but would I want Gerrard to be the Liverpool manager without more experience? Possibly not.

“I just think when you get those really big jobs without the experience, you’ve got nothing to fall back on when times are tough, as they will be for Frank right now.”

Frank Lampard has not been able to match up to the hype and right now the Blues are struggling to even come up with half-decent performances on the pitch.

After the loss to Manchester City, Lampard is under real pressure to perform but that is not the same with Steven Gerrard at Rangers FC.

After struggling to challenge Celtic last season, the Gers are flying under Gerrard during the current campaign. They haven’t lost a single game in the SPFL so far and are currently 19 points clear at the top of the table.

Obviously, the SPFL and the Premier League are two different beasts but we don’t think Liverpool are in any hurry to bring Steven Gerrard to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp has a couple of years left on his current deal with Liverpool and if there’s no major setback then the German will remain at Anfield for the next three years – at least.

As far as Frank Lampard is concerned, Roman Abramovich is willing to give him time to turn things around but if the situation doesn’t improve by the end of the season then the former England international will undoubtedly be sacked.
