Spurs join Liverpool in the race to sign this 24 Y/O central midfielder: Where will he end up?

Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival English rivals Liverpool in the signing of AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, as per Football London.

They cite Italian reports claiming: “With one midfielder(Sissoko) potentially on the way out, Tottenham could be looking to bring a replacement in.

“That man could be AS Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini who Il Messaggero report that Spurs are closely watching alongside Liverpool.

“A deal could be made easier by the imminent arrival of Fabio Paratici although it remains to be seen whether Spurs could beat Champions League bound Liverpool to his signature.”

Lorenzo Pellegrini to Spurs or Liverpool?

With Wijnaldum moving out of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is actively looking for a new central midfielder and someone like Lorenzo Pellegrini will be the perfect fit.

But now this entry of Tottenham Hotspur is going to make things really complicated for Liverpool. If Moussa Sissoko is really moving out then Pellegrini will have the chance to become a mainstay at Spurs next season.

Liverpool though have players like Henderson and Naby Keita amongst their ranks so Lorenzo Pellegrini will have to fight for his place if he chooses to join the Anfield outfit this summer.

But Spurs are in a major mess right now and until they can sort out their managerial problem, we don’t think the 24-year-old will be too keen to join the London club.

Several reports claim ex-Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is set to become the next manager at Spurs and if this is true then Liverpool could face a major setback in signing Lorenzo Pellegrini since Fonseca will surely attract the Roma captain to Spurs.

Liverpool can offer the midfielder Champions League football next season but if Pellegrini is not guaranteed playing time next season, we doubt if the Italian international will be ready to join them this summer.

During the 2020-21 season, he played in 34 Serie A games for AS Roma, scoring seven and assisting six goals. As per TransferMarkt, he is valued at £36 million and has only one more year left on his current deal.
