During the summer transfer window, Barcelona failed to bring in Nico Williams despite a lot of efforts and it looks like the Catalans are now planning to go after Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.
Nico Williams was priority number one for Hansi Flick but due to the club’s financial problems, Barcelona managed to bring in only Dani Olmo. The left-wing issue still remains unsolved which is why many experts have been claiming that the Catalans will go back for Williams.
However, it seems like Barca have ditched this plan because, at the end of this season, they will try and sign Luis Diaz, a player who is very keen to join the Blaugrana.
Should Barca put their focus on Luis Diaz?
Williams has chosen to remain at Bilbao for one more year and if he has another top season then his salary demands will skyrocket. It will be almost impossible for Barca to pay €350,000 to 400,000 per week to the 22-year-old which is why they have made a very sensible decision to back off.
Luis Diaz, on the other hand, earns only €65,000 per week at Liverpool and to lure him out, Barcelona can very easily offer him around €200,000 to €250,000 per week.
Both Williams and Luis Diaz have a similar transfer value but by going after the Liverpool star, Barca will not only save a lot of money in wages but at the same time, they will get someone who is a much more experienced and well-rounded player.
During the 2023/24 campaign, the Colombian international played in 37 Premier League games, scoring 8 and assisting 5 goals. He had an xG of 11.88 from 32 shots on target. The 27-year-old had a passing accuracy of 85% and he created 64 chances in the league alone.
Luis Diaz is eager to play for Barcelona so the La Liga giants won’t have a problem in agreeing on personal terms with the South American.
This season, Hansi Flick has been using players like Ferran Torres and Raphinha on the left wing but the club will have to bring in a world-class left-winger next year.
Apart from Nico Williams, the Blaugrana were linked with Luis Diaz this summer as well but firstly, they did not have enough money to catch Liverpool’s attention and secondly, the Anfield outfit did not want to lose such an influential player in Arne Slot’s first season in charge.
