This €75M wants to join Barcelona in the summer but should Xavi put his focus on signing Nico Williams instead?

As per a report by Fichajes, Liverpool winger Luis Diaz wants to leave England and join Barcelona during the upcoming summer window.

Luis Diaz signed for Liverpool from FC Porto in 2022 for a fee of €50 million and in three seasons, the Colombian international has been one of the most consistent attackers for the Anfield outfit.

He’s featured in 97 games across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and this campaign, he’s been outstanding with 13 goals and 5 assists against his name. While players like Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo have struggled to get consistent game time, Luis Diaz has started 31 out of the 36 Premier League games he’s played so far this season.

With Jurgen Klopp set to leave, the 27-year-old probably feels his time in England has also come to an end and he harbours feelings about playing for Barcelona next season which perfectly aligns with Xavi’s hunt for a new left-winger.

Should Barcelona sign Luis Diaz or should they focus on Nico Williams?

Xavi wants to bring in a top-class left-winger but instead of the Liverpool man, we think the manager will be better off trying to get his hands on Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Nico Williams like Luis Diaz is also keen to play for Barcelona next season but unlike the Liverpool winger, the youngster has a release clause of just €55 million.

Diaz, on the other hand, has three more years remaining on his contract and his current market value is €75 million which means if Liverpool have to let him go, they will quote at least €85 million for him.

And while Barcelona have a big advantage because the 27-year-old is eager to play for them, there’s no way they can afford to pay €80-85 million for any player this season.

Paying €55 million for Nico Williams will also be a bit of a steep task for the Catalans but this is an amount that is far more achievable.

Also, Liverpool might lose Mo Salah to the Saudi Pro League and even Darwin Nunez has been tipped to leave in the summer and if both of them head for the exit doors, there’s no way Arne Slot will want to lose Luis Diaz in the same transfer window.

The one drawback if Barcelona opt for Nico Williams instead of Diaz will be that the Colombian international is a proper finished product so he will have an instant but Williams is one for the future which means Xavi will have to be patient with him for one or maybe two upcoming seasons.
