Manchester City lost 3-2 to Crystal Palace this weekend which means Liverpool will go into Christmas on top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool won their respective game on Friday night beating Wolves 2-0 meaning Jurgen Klopp’s side now have a four-point lead at the top of the table.
City were on course to what looked like a regulation win vs Palace when Ilkay Gundogan but the Citizens in front with a neat header just before the half-hour mark.
But Palace managed to fight back and at one point they were leading the game 3-1.
Kevin De Bruyne did manage to pull one goal back five minutes before full time but that little to erase the embarrassment.
And speaking after the game Fabian Delph has revealed why City lost to Palace on Saturday as a result of which Jurgen Klopp’s men are enjoying a hefty lead at the top of the table.
“Obviously the result is a setback. We have lost but we are only looking at ourselves game to game,” Fabian Delph told the BBC(as reported by MEN).
“We had a few chances which we have put away in the past, but fair play to Crystal Palace – they were stubborn and organised.
“It’s hard to analyse and we will go back to the drawing board and look at it. We started slowly and the ball wasn’t zipping about.”
Fabian Delph hit the nail on the head since Manchester City did miss a series of chances to win the game and had the players managed to convert all the chances then Pep Guardiola’s men should have managed to win the game with a handsome goal difference.
Now the onus is totally on Liverpool to maintain that gap on top of the table and ensure that they make it as hard as possible for Manchester City to claw back that difference.
Manchester City and Liverpool face off against each other in their first game of 2019 and this match will decide whether Pep Guardiola can maintain the pressure on Liverpool or will Jurgen Klopp’s men extend that gap on the top of the table.
